Amazonas

Hiking in the jungle again. No animals this time but we got a course on building traps. The guide cut the crown off a young tree, bent it down, and tied a rope to the end which was held down by an H-shaped frame and a carefully balanced trip rod. Step on that rod, and it will release the rope from the H frame. We all got to try it. Rather powerful, this would trap and lift an animal up to several kilos.

Some of the trees here are enormous, and are among the tallest in Amazonas. Some have spiked trunks. Lianas are hanging down, some of them as big around as tree trunks. In the rainy season, this forest is flooded; some trees have water marks almost 8 meters up.

Back to Manaus in the afternoon.
