Makuru lake is a national park with a big lake in the middle. This lake, too, has a rising water level and the resulting dead tree forest in the water. The main entrance road now disappears into the lake, and the ruins of the old reception building are a kilometer away in the lake.

Saw lions gathered around the carcass of a buffalo they have hunted, bloody ribs sticking out into the air. There are four cubs running about, too; the adults can’t be bothered to stand up after feeding. Lions need a meal only once every week or two.

They have zebra crossings in the park. Lots. Animals always have right of way.
