Templed out

My round trip through Tamil Nadu is ending, and I think I have seen rather enough Hindu temples already. But here are a few more at night where they got creative with ornaments. Is that Rudolph?

This is Kanchipuram, a few hours west of Chennai and the end of a nine-hour trip involving a bus that dumped everyone on the highway, turned around and sped away. Caught another one fortunately and had the quintessential experience of hanging on outside the bus door because it was so full. Once again the connecting bus was from a new bus stand far outside the city which made a tuk-tuk driver very happy.

The rest of Kanchipuram is forgettable, except that Indian bakery where I had lunch and everyone wanted to chat with the old tall white guy. Difficult because most people I have met during this trip so far did not speak more than a few words of English. There is essentially no foreign tourism here and no infrastructure for it. Part of the fun! And no Western fast food anywhere.
