Rural Uganda

It’s a long way from Kampala to Kabale, 10 hours in a long-distance bus. I decided to get it over with because I couldn’t find stops along the way that interested me enough to spend a night there. Buses are not much more comfortable than matatus, quite crowded.

It’s frequently stopping in small villages. Each time street vendors were swarming the bus to sell bananas, corn, soda, water, fake watches (“touch watch” with a big Apple logo), caps, handbags, and lots of other stuff. The bus windows are two meters above the ground so some have built wooden racks, very creative.

There are vendors traveling with the bus two. I wish I spoke Swahili so I would know why the hand cream vendor needed a 30-minute monologue to explain a hand cream. We had an angry preacher with a bible too, shouting and stabbing the air like an American televangelist. Many passengers chimed in, to my surprise.
