The source of the Nile river is in Jinja at Lake Victoria. (The White Nile – there is a shorter tributary in Ethiopia called the Blue Nile but I guess there wasn’t enough space on all the signs to explain that.)

Tha matutu ride from Kisumu in Kenya via the border town of Busia is pretty rough. The matutu vans are essentially wrecks that refuse to stop moving, and are very tightly packed with people. Well, it’s all about getting up close with the locals, most of whom speak good English besides Swahili. Every sign in public is in English.

I like Jinja. It’s a relaxed and safe town with lots of green space and no traffic problem. Today is the monthly Day of Cleaning, where everybody collects garbage off the street, so everything was very clean. People are friendly, I walked for a while with a lady who took a break from feeding pigs and took me to her village at the lake. I do have an issue with begging children though
