When it’s not New Year’s Eve, the Madirokely village on Nosy Be is just a sleepy place. Pretty but there isn’t much to do here. I chose a hotel in the tourist part of town because that’s where the hotels are. There is also a local part with bad traffic, rutted dirt roads, and the inevitable open market packed with people.
Tourist part sounds worse than it is. This is not Pattaya ehere tourists are king and you get everything from sex to drugs. Madagascar is not like that. All you get is clusters of pleasant restaurants and bars, and very little else. There aren’t even souvenir shops here, although I did find an art exhibition down the beach. Relaxing!
