Madagascar

Madagaskar is the world’s fourth largest island, off the coast of eastern Africa. Once again my EU passport did its job and I just walked in with a minimum of formalities and waiting. The taxi ride to Antananarivo (always have to count my a’s here) was traffic hell and I could barely breathe, apparently nobody here has heard of exhaust cleaning.

Spent the day riding down the highland route to Ambalavao, through many interesting little towns. It’s amazing how many children can be seen, some of them working in professions I hadn’t previously known. For example, the road is overall not bad, but had awful stretches with potholes so large that the van had to drive into it and back out the other side. So,  children fill in the smaller ones with gravel and dirt, and try to collect a fee.

14 hours on the road, I need sleep. Tomorrow I’ll go hiking for three days and will probably have no Internet until, I hope, Wednesday.
