Some more time in the city. The Haight or Haight/Ashbury, is the original hippie neighborhood. It used to be alive with artists, oddball shops, and institutions like the bookstore. Covid has not been kind to it. Many stores have closed and shuttered, and the bookstore is half its previous size.
To the west is Golden Gate Park, a large green rectangle extending all the way to the Pacific. It’s as well-maintained as ever, and very relaxing. Stanyan St is its eastern boundary, but now almost all the stores are gone and a large chunk is under construction. Also passed by nearby Castro St, which looks mostly normal.
San Francisco is not as bad as the locals say, but it needs some love.
